Why is PA SD-6 considered one of the most critical State Senate races in 2026?

Eileen Hartnett Albillar believes this seat is one of the keys to flipping control of the Pennsylvania State Senate — and that changes everything for Bucks County and for the Commonwealth.

Right now, Republicans hold the Senate 27 to 23. Democrats need to flip just a few seats to tie the chamber — and if they tie it, Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis breaks the tie. SD-6 is one of the top pickup opportunities. Governor Shapiro won this district in 2022 and will lead the charge here for Democrats once again. Bucks County has shown it’s ready for change — voters here have elected Democrats at the county level, and the demographics and energy in this district make it one of the most competitive Senate races in the state.

Here’s what flipping the Senate would mean in practical terms:

  • The majority party controls which bills get a hearing. Right now, Republican leadership decides what moves and what dies in committee — and bills on school funding, SEPTA, healthcare, and affordability have been stalled or killed.

  • Flipping the Senate shifts the entire legislative agenda, allowing the governor to work with a legislature that shares middle-class priorities. A long-term SEPTA fix becomes possible, school funding reform moves forward, and investments in healthcare finally get a real hearing.

  • Bucks County goes from being represented by someone who has blocked progress to being represented by a voice that is part of the governing majority.

For Albillar, this isn’t just about one seat. It’s about whether the issues Bucks County families care about most actually have a chance to become law. That’s why this race matters so much.
